Simple Steps To Maintaining A Great Garden

Gardening can be great fun and it does not matter if you work in your own garden or render professional service to others. If you are passionate about gardening you will love toiling among plants and will be able to bring about the most captivating transformations. Your passion makes the work thoroughly enjoyable.
When people ask for help with their gardening, it is not only because they do not have the time, but mainly because they do not know how to change an ordinary unimpressive garden into a colorful place of enjoyment and delight where they can relax and lounge especially during the hot summer days.

When a garden is not looked after, nature takes its toll with the beds and borders becoming swamped with weeds although the garden's main structure remains intact. The beds get into bad shape and the lawn starts creeping in. If this is the case it needs immediate remedy.

To begin with, the lawn needs to be mowed using a good lawnmower with new/sharpened blades. Using a rotary mower is best although cylindrical mowers can also be used to advantage if you want to give the lawn a bowling effect. If you need to deal with banks and slopes you may have to use a hover mower. After the mowing it is necessary to finish the edges and if required a lawn-edging tool should be used.

Regular weeding of beds and borders is a must to keep them tidy. Using a long handled hoe can be of great help in weeding. It may seem tiring work but will pay dividends at the right time. Having completed the weeding it is time to turn to planting. The garden plan should have the main planting structure created by shrubs. The perennial plants would then follow. And lastly for that colorful splash summer bed the spring bulbs of daffodils, tulips, crocuses, snowdrops and all others that take your fancy. You must also make sure that the shrubs are pruned at the right time for that neat trimmed look. Cut the spring garden shrubs after flowering. This will ensure that the following summer there is new growth for flowers. All plants need to be placed in environments that are friendly to them, which may be different for different plants.

Maintaining your garden includes caring for your patio and decking also. You need to regularly clean and take good care of your garden path and patio. They complement your garden and give it neat tidy look. Cleaning also prevents accidental falls by slipping on moss or algae. There are many simple things you need to do to keep your garden tidy. For example, just raking your gravel path can add immaculateness to the overall appearance of your garden.

Use some water and a broom to clean the garden paving. Patios need a bit more elaborate cleaning and it is advisable to use a proprietary product for cleaning your patio. If you can procure a pressure washer it would be great for patio cleaning. However, use it with caution as it might damage the concrete surface of the paving. You also need to check for loose/damaged paving stones and intactness of jointing material every three or four months. Take time to scrupulously clean the pavers of any bird droppings, chewing gum, barbecue fat or alcohol stains.
